Newsletter N°6 : Reunion time again!

That’s it! It’s official! We just can’t wait anymore!

Nearly everything is in place. Palexpo is taking shape nicely and will soon be ready to extend you a proper welcome.

The doors open on Wednesday and the first of you will wander down the aisles, do a little Christmas shopping, check out the new decorations created by our teams, bump into some old faces and, of course, see the first horses venture out into this legendary arena.

It’s reunion time and it almost brings a tear to our eyes, just as it did for Jérôme Voutaz in the press conference we held a few days ago. Geneva is close to the Valais rider’s heart, and the feeling is mutual. Cheered on by his ever-growing legion of fans, he raises the atmosphere levels in the stands at the two driving events, which are among the most popular of events.

He’s not the only sportsman from French-speaking Switzerland who is delighted to be back at the CHI Geneva. There’s Anthony Bourquard, who some have seen literally grow up at Palexpo and who is hoping to make his debut appearance in the Rolex Grand Prix – don’t miss the article on him in the official programme and listen to his interview on our website – and, of course, there’s Steve Guerdat. Back in action after several months out with a herniated disc, Guerdat is sure to receive a lot of acclaim should he prevail in one of the weekend’s big events.

Tickets for Friday and Sunday sold out some time ago, but there are still some available for Thursday, a golden opportunity to watch the world’s leading riders battle it out for places at the Rolex Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Saturday’s day session is a perfect opportunity for families to spend some time together and enjoy the attractions on offer, which include the famous combination-jumps event and Antonella Joannou’s dressage masterclass. And, at the time of writing at least, there are still some tickets available for Saturday’s evening session. But hurry! You don’t want to miss out!

If you can’t make it to Palexpo this year, then don’t worry. All the events (with the exception of the driving competitions) will be streamed live on our website, where you’ll also find lots of reports from our CHIG TV team, articles and interviews from our daily newspaper Le Paddock, podcasts from our partner I am an Equestrian, and glimpses from behind the scenes on our social media channels.

So, whether you’re joining us in person or online, we look forward to welcoming you in numbers to the 64th edition of the CHI Geneva.

No one gets in without Nicole’s say-so

She is, to all intents and purposes, the gatekeeper of the place. Working with the Organising Committee, she is the one who grants access to the many zones that make up the CHI Geneva, the one who hands out the much-coveted magic key to their rightful owners: the famous pass that hangs around the necks of organisers, volunteers, riders, journalists, guests, partners, exhibitors and the like. Without one of these or a ticket to the event, nothing and no one gets past Nicole von Potobsky.
