Edouard Schmitz finishes in 2nd place in Kappelen-Lyss
The 2026 Swiss Elite Championship Final, held in Kappelen-Lyss, also served as an important stop on the Wild Cards circuit. With a coefficient of 2, the results from this event allowed riders to earn double the points in the race for Wild Cards to the CHI de Genève.
Timo Heiniger took the win with Maddox MB, ahead of Edouard Schmitz from French-speaking Switzerland and Gamin van’t Naastveldhof. Jonas Tiefenauer and Monte Cristo completed the podium.
Thanks to this second-place finish and the event’s weighting of 2, Edouard Schmitz has made a strong climb up the provisional standings. The rider from the Romandy region now holds third place in the Wild Cards standings. Another major change following this stage: Thibaut Keller has taken the lead in the provisional standings. Finishing ninth with Casaltina, he now leads his competitors in the race for Wild Cards.
Several other riders from French-speaking Switzerland also scored points in Kappelen-Lyss, with Jean-Maurice Brahier in 12th, Noah Keller in 15th, and Philippe Putallaz in 16th.
There are now four stages remaining in the Wild Cards circuit. The competition remains more open than ever for riders hoping to secure their Wild Card for the CHI de Genève.
