PEDER FREDRICSON IN FOR THE INJURED ROMAIN DUGUET
The fates have not been kind to Swiss rider Romain Duguet, who fell when his horse slipped at his Normandy stables on Sunday and fractured his sacrum (a triangular bone at the top of the pelvis). The runner-up at the FEI World Cup Final in 2017, Duguet will be confined to bed for the next six weeks and will not be able to ride for several months.
Coming in to replace him in Thursday evening’s Trophée de Genève (20:00) and complete the field of 50 in what is a qualifier for Sunday’s Rolex Grand Prix is Sweden’s Peder Fredricson, an Olympic team champion and two-time Olympic individual silver medallist. Fredricson’s horses have travelled from Sweden with the mount of his brother Jens, who won team gold at this year’s European Championships, where he also placed fifth in the individual, and who is making his debut appearance at Palexpo.
