In a break from tradition, the 61st Concours Hippique International de Genève (CHIG) got under way not on a Thursday but a Wednesday, with three national events sponsored by Credit Suisse on the card.
Proceedings kicked off with the Prix Credit Suisse Jockey Club R/N 115. In the first event, Emna Coigny jumped the fastest clear round on Despe de Lassionieu to beat Alessia Schirinzi, on board Darius RW, and Simon Broillet, riding Exta du Clos. Partnered by Nike van Het Bekelhof, Patricia Comninos took the honours in the second event, posting the fastest time of the R/N 115 to finish ahead of Lou Darioli (Enno W) and Gaëtane Varetz (Appel du Soulaire).
Emna Coigny: “This is my second time at the CHIG. I’m delighted to have won the event and the atmosphere at this magnificent arena is absolutely incredible. I’m so pleased to be taking part in Saturday’s Credit Suisse Coupe du Jockey Club.”
Patricia Comninos: “I’m also making my second appearance at the CHIG but this is my first win here. I’ve always admired the great riders at the CHIG’s international events, and winning today is a dream come true for me. My mare was a little bit circumspect on the way round but she was still very brave. I’ll be there on Saturday, of course, but I’ll be taking fewer risks than I did today to make sure I go clear.”
