CHIO Aachen is just a few days away

The cycle of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping restarts at CHIO Aachen

Although CHIO Aachen (GER) lasts a week and opened with vaulting competitions on Friday, the show jumping will only begin on Tuesday. Germany’s renowned Major, one of the equestrian world’s great events, will also feature dressage, driving and cross-country competitions.

The event’s showcase competition, one of the legs of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping, will be held on Sunday, 22 July at 1.30 pm.

Fresh from winning the Dutch Masters of Den Bosch (NED), Niels Bruynseels from Belgium will of course be there, hoping to record a second consecutive Grand Slam victory. And Kent Farrington, winner of the 57th edition of CHI Geneva, is back from an injury sustained early in the year and will be trying to win another Major.

It will be the last chance for local rider Philipp Weishaupt, winner of the Spruce Meadows “Masters” of Calgary (CAN) Major last September, to win a second, although non-consecutive, Major in one cycle, to add to the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen he won in 2016 with his grey, LB Convall. Gregory Wathelet on Corée will be there to defend his title as winner of the competition in 2017.

But before they can take part in the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday, 22 July, the riders will have to do well in competitions such as the Turkish Airlines Prix d’Europe, the Mercedes-Benz Nations Cup and the North Rhine-Westphalia Prize. The complete list of riders competing in this Major is yet to be known...

Meanwhile, relive the jump-off won by Gregory Wathelet and Corée at CHIO Aachen in 2017, and that of Niels Bruynseels on Gancia de Muze, currently in the running for the Grand Slam after his victory in the Dutch Masters of Den Bosch in March.
