The Institut International de Lancy, a loyal supporter of the CHIG

The partnership between the Institut International de Lancy (IIL) and the CHI Geneva turned ten in 2024. And the story continues this year, as the Geneva-based private school steps up its support of an event it is very much attached to.

Tuesday 26 August, 3pm. It is the calm before the storm at the IIL. Sheltered from view, the school courtyard is bathed in quiet, peaceful sunshine. Twenty-four hours later and it is a very different story, as the IIL’s 1,500 students – aged 3 to 19 and hailing from 95 different countries – return from their summer holidays.

Suddenly, holiday tales and laughter fill the corridors, as the IIL’s students happily become reacquainted with one another and the school, founded more than 120 years ago, cranks back into life. The fact is, however, that the Institut International de Lancy never closes its doors, with holiday camps running throughout the summer. They include riding classes, which the school lays on with the help of local stables.

The IIL has long had a passion for horses. Many of its students and members of staff are keen riders themselves, while the school offers sports/study modules that mould timetables around an individual’s leisure activities and sporting or artistic pursuits, all in the spirit of personal development and self-improvement.

Those are values that the international school shares with the CHIG. It should come as no great surprise, then, that the IIL celebrated the tenth anniversary of its collaboration with the Geneva equestrian show last year and that it is stepping up its support in 2025. The school is also heavily involved in Children’s Day, held on the Thursday of the CHIG. The event is hugely popular, with classes carefully selected to ensure that everyone has the chance to discover the activities organised by the CHIG year after year.

For the last few years now, the school has also been sponsoring the opening round of the FEI Driving World Cup, which takes place on the Saturday evening. The awards ceremony for that event just happens to be one of the highlights of the CHIG for Monique Roiné, the head of the IIL.

“I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world,” she smiled. “Driving is such an exciting discipline and there’s a real family feel about it, which makes it a great fit for us. We are proud to be part of such an event. The atmosphere is unique and many of our students and staff have a strong attachment to horses. It’s only natural that these two Geneva institutions should join forces support one another.”
